Music that speaks
Music has the amazing power to transport us to other places, other feelings, other moods. Creating a playlist of songs which comfort, inspire, or lift your spirits, or simply give a sense of shared feelings and experiences, can transform your mood, even if it's just for a little while. One of our favourite quotes that we believe pulls together the magic of sound is as follows:
Songs you know by heart
Songs that stir the soul
That stick in your head all day
And are welcome there
It is not just what the music says
But how it feels, the colour of a song
Its shape, the way it can define a time
A relationship, a memory
A visual soundtrack to those moments
And emotions that mean the most to us
It is important to remember the good feelings that may come from such memories but to try and resist the temptation to wish for the past to return. In this way we begin to learn to live in the present moment with periods of feeling better inside. We hope, with the following selection of music, that there may be one piece that has a special meaning for you.
It might be hope by Sara Groves
Something inside so strong by a Rock Choir
(originally sung by Labi Siffre)
Nimrod by Edward Elgar
(Elgar wrote this piece for his friend Augustus Jaeger, who encouraged him to continue when he was about to give up composing after a fit of depression)
