For partners, families and friends
There is nothing more painful than seeing the one we love plunge into the depth of depression; nothing more difficult than finding the right words to say or the right things to help. A good beginning in understanding what depression feels like, is to watch the following videos:

Living with a black dog https://youtu.be/2VRRx7Mtep8
The videos offer a simple and brief introduction to depression exploring its effect on both the sufferer and the carer. They also offer helpful suggestions in working towards recovery.
The black dog, symbolizing depression, originated way back in the days of the former Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, who himself struggled enormously with depression that he called his ‘black dog’. Churchill himself found great solace in his painting. We hope this will help you towards understanding this debilitating illness, but also offer hope, as there is a way out to recovery and being healed.
