The body scan and mindfulness of breathing

This in included in session 3 of the course as part of the relaxation exercise and we felt it may be helpful to some of you if you already have access to this practice.

The body scan helps us to develop an awareness of our body, to realize how tense we may be feeling and to identify the triggers that happen before we may loose our temper or wish to run away from situations.  This simple method will therefore gently support us in trying to understand ourselves better and helps us towards becoming more in tune with ourselves and, ultimately, more in control of our emotions.

The mindfulness of breathing, which follows on so naturally from the body scan, is a gentle way of being in control of our thought patterns and mental habits by using our breathing as a focus of concentration, especially when our ‘monkey mind’ keeps trying to distract us!
