Feedback from mother who attended the Elpitha group in January/February 2016:
'I would definitely recommend the course. I enjoyed it so much that I wished it could have gone on for longer. I learnt strategies to help me be assertive rather than aggressive. This has changed the way I disagree with my husband –we now discuss problems instead of arguing. If we start shouting I know to leave the situation until we have calmed down.I am calmer when I am driving. I used to behave in an aggressive way and this was being copied by the children. My negativity was being passed on to the rest of the family. J (age 10) said 'it's really good to see you smile Mum'. I react to other people's behaviour differently now. I have been paying more attention to the children and have gained an understanding of why their behaviour is sometimes challenging.'
Feedback from mother who attended the first Elpitha group held in 2008:
'I’d just moved out of a women’s refuge in an area I didn’t know or have any connections to. I sat in my flat all day with my son and became a hermit. My health visitor said that they were going to start a new group, which would help ladies such as myself who are suffering from a lack of confidence and depression, so I agreed as, at that time, what did I have to lose? They sent a cab for us and a creche was set up so my boy was looked after whilst we all talked. It took a while but, week by week, we all began to open up and start to begin that long road back to getting back on top. 8 years on and my son is about to start secondary, I’ve passed my driving test and have a job which I adore. I have a great circle of friends and I think now I am at peace with the past. Without Elpitha I wouldn’t have the inner calm. Take the first small step and Elpitha will help you run again.'
